Color Color phase

Paint

Pixel art, straight onto the model. A full paint studio on every face.

The Color phase opens a little bar at the bottom. Its buttons are glyphs, not words: Fill, Pattern, Paint, Flip-book, and Outfits. Paint is the one that opens the full-screen pixel canvas.

The Color bar. Its buttons are little glyphs; Paint is the brush.

Paint needs to know which faces to open on, so brush or tap some faces first, then tap the Paint brush. The full-screen canvas takes over.

Each face starts as a 16×16 pixel grid; tap the header label to switch between 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64. Neighboring flat faces unroll into one flat papercraft net, so a stroke flows across edges without a seam. The 🔀 Seams button re-unrolls the net a different way if a seam lands somewhere awkward.

The paint toolbar

Inside the paint canvas the tools live on their own bar, a cream pill of glyph buttons. The lit tool glows rose. Tap the lit tool a second time and a little pop-out opens with its settings.

  • Pen: your everyday drawing tool. At size 1 it is pixel-perfect, with no lumpy corners; bigger sizes stamp a fatter brush. Its pop-out sets the size, and holds a Smudge mode that drags colors into each other like a fingertip.
  • Fill: flood-fills a whole area with one tap. Dithered areas count as one area, so a checkered patch fills in a single tap too.
  • Eraser: rubs back to the face’s color, or to See-through, where the erased pixels become real cutout holes in the model. The pop-out picks the size and which one.
  • Line: straight lines with a preview.
  • Dither: pattern brushes. Light, heavy, and checker screens of the current color, plus two-tone dithers that weave the blend ramp’s two colors together for instant retro shading.
  • Color: the swatch box. It opens the palette, the recents, the blend ramp, and Grab a color from the drawing (the eyedropper). You can also long-press right on the canvas to grab a color.
  • Photo: drops a photograph onto the faces. See Photos for the whole flow.

Colors and the blend ramp

The Color swatch opens recents, a 28-color palette, and the blend ramp: set a From and a To color and five in-between steps appear, a ready-made shading ramp for fur, skies, and gradients.

↩ Undo takes back a whole stroke at a time, even one that crossed many faces, and ↪ Redo sits right beside it. ✔ Done returns to the model. For putting photographs onto faces, see Photos .
