Color Color phase

Retro photo dither

Remake a photo with fewer colors. Two-tone ink, black and white, or the app's palette.

The dither remakes a photo with fewer colors and visible grain. The panel is the Look section at the bottom of the Photo card , open while a photo is in.

The Look section of the Photo card. Select a mode, then the grain.

The modes

  • Off: the original photo.
  • B&W: the photo rebuilt from dark dots on light.
  • Two-tone: the same, in your colors. Tap Ink or Paper, then tap a color in the grid below to set it.
  • Palette: the photo rebuilt from the app’s colors. Tap a color in the grid to leave it out. At least two stay.

The grain

Soft grain scatters the dots. Grid dots locks them to a fixed pattern. One slider sets the amount: it reads Balance in B&W and Two-tone and Grain in Palette.

Where it works

The same panel appears when a photo is stamped onto a fig in Paint and when a photo is imported into the Pattern studio . In the studio the first chip reads Original.

The dither works with pixelation : the dither sets the colors, the fineness sets the pixel size.
