Retro photo dither
Remake any photo in a handheld-camera style: two-tone ink, grainy black & white, or the app's own palette.
✨ Dither remakes a photo the way old handheld cameras did: fewer colors, honest grain. The panel opens on its own when a photo comes in, and the ✨ button brings it back any time.
The modes
- Off: the original photo, untouched.
- B&W: classic one-ink dithering, the whole image rebuilt from dark dots on light.
- Two-tone: the same trick with your colors. Pick an Ink and a Paper and the photo becomes a two-color print, like navy on cream for an old comic.
- Palette: the photo rebuilt entirely from the app’s curated colors. Tap colors out of the grid to narrow the mood (a palette keeps at least two).
The texture
Two grain styles, one slider. Soft grain scatters the dots organically, like film. Grid dots locks them to a crisp printed pattern. The slider (Balance, or Grain in Palette mode) sets how hard the effect leans.
Where it works
Everywhere photos land: stamping onto a Flatling in Paint's photo mode , and importing into the Pattern studio , where a dithered photo of real brick makes an uncannily good wall tile.
Dithering pairs with the canvas’s own pixelation : the dither picks the colors, the resolution picks the chunkiness.
