Color Color phase

Effects

Put Light, Water, Shiny, Glass, Paper, Cardboard, Metal, or Sparkle on any color.

An effect is applied on top of a color and has no color of its own. Set one from Fill or from Paint.

In Fill

Fill’s Effect dropdown holds None, Light, Water, Shiny, Glass, Paper, Cardboard, Metal, Sparkle, and Clear. Select one, select the faces, and press the effect’s Apply button beside Fill (for example Apply Light): the faces take the effect and keep their color. Press it again and the effect is removed. A tap on a face only ever selects it. The Select bar’s Apply row has the same button (it shows the selected effect’s name). See Fill .

In Paint

Paint’s Effects button, at the end of the toolbar, opens Light, Water, Shiny, Glass, Paper, Cardboard, and Metal. Tap one and every tool marks that effect instead of applying color: the button shows its name, the layer chip in the header reads Effects ▾, and the Color swatch reads Color off. Marked spots show a hatch on the canvas. Tap the same effect again to return to paint. See Paint and Layers .

What each one looks like

  • Light glows in its own color and keeps its full color in shadow. It works in all four looks . See Lights .
  • Water is a wet blue shimmer over the paint.
  • Shiny is a bright sheen over the face’s own color: black stays black, red stays red, and white reads as chrome.
  • Glass is see-through. In Lofi it is a screen door, every other pixel dropped. In Handheld, Flat, and Pixel it is a pane, half see-through.
  • Paper is a matte grain.
  • Cardboard is a coarser kraft fibre with corrugation lines running one way.
  • Metal is brushed chrome in the paint’s color: cream reads as chrome, grey as steel, yellow as gold, orange as copper. The reflection slides across a face as the view turns.
  • Sparkle is set on a color, not a face. It shows star glints on every face in that color, on the fig and in scenes.
  • Clear is not an effect. It removes every effect and leaves the color.

In Flat and Pixel

Flat and Pixel draw no shading, so Water, Shiny, Paper, Cardboard, and Metal are not offered there, in Fill or in Paint. Light, Glass, and Sparkle stay.

The rules

  • An effect never repaints. The pixels keep their colors, and a stamped photo keeps every pixel.
  • One effect per spot. Metal on a Shiny face replaces it.
  • To remove one, press the same effect’s Apply again on the selection, or select Clear. In Paint, with an effect armed, the Eraser removes the mark, and so does a Fill pour on a marked patch. The layer menu’s Clear effects row removes every effect from the whole fig.
  • A plain fill in a new color removes the effect with the pixel art.
  • Effects stay with the paint: in scenes, the Camera , and every saved skin .

Effects are per pixel in Paint, so one face can be half plain brick and half Light window.
