Patterns
Apply tileable patterns such as bricks and gingham to faces, at world scale.
Pattern applies a tiling pattern to faces: tap the faces, select a pattern, then press Apply. Patterns tile at world scale, so a tile is the same size on a small fig and a big one, and never stretches to fit a face.
Pattern is the second tool on the Color tab. The Apply button is in the page’s header bar. The form holds a Size slider and a strip of patterns: yours first, then the starters. The strip scrolls sideways. All patterns ▸ under it opens the whole pattern shelf, Yours and Community, in a sheet over the editor.
Apply to faces
A tap in the Color tab selects a face. Tap the faces you want, tap a pattern to choose it, then press Apply in the header bar (it reads how many faces, for example Apply to 3 faces). Choosing a pattern never changes the fig by itself. The Select bar’s Apply row has a Pattern button too: it applies the selected pattern to the selection and keeps the selection. See Fill .
A pattern with see-through spots is applied over what the face already has. The paint or the fill color shows through the holes.
Size
The Size slider sets how much of the fig one tile of the pattern covers, in eleven stops from ⅛ block to 8 blocks. It starts on 1 block, one tile per grid block. The size applies to the next Apply.
A face holds up to 32 tiles along each edge. A face smaller than one tile shows the matching part of a tile (a half, a quarter or an eighth), so a thin edge face keeps the pattern at the same scale as the faces around it.
Where patterns come from
Patterns are made in the Pattern studio , on the Home screen’s Patterns tab. It has the same toolbar as Paint plus a Tiled ×4 preview, so you draw one tile and see it repeat. A tile is 16, 32, 64, or 128 pixels across. The size label beside the pattern’s name cycles through them. Starter patterns are included, and your own are listed beside them.
Patterns inside Paint
Inside the Paint screen, the Pattern pill puts a pattern on the photo table. Slide it into place and tap a face to stamp it.
Patterns in scenes
The same patterns apply to scene walls and floors . They are under Patterns in the color wells. A wall that has a pattern gets its own Pattern size row with four sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and Huge. See Build a building .
