Make a photo scene
Place figs inside a photograph, on its floor and behind its front.
A photo scene places figs inside a photograph. The app splits the photo’s front from its back, so figs stand in the picture, not on top of it.
Select the photo
Start it one of three ways:
- In New scene, select the A photo row.
- In an open scene, tap Setting on the World tab , switch its first row to Photo, and tap Make a photo scene.
- Open the top bar’s Scene menu and tap Make a photo scene….
Choose Take a photo or Camera roll, then fit it. With Frame it, drag and pinch the photo to fit the frame. With Warp it, drag four dots to square a skewed photo. Tap Use this photo. The photo becomes the backdrop and the camera locks to the photo’s point of view.
Setting › Photo then holds the photo’s settings, in this order: Your photo (a thumbnail and New photo), Photo look, Sun, and Floor and cutouts.
Floor and cutouts
Floor and cutouts shows the photo. The floor is drawn on it as a grid, dashed until the floor is set. Every cutout is highlighted and numbered where it was cut.
Under the picture, four rows nudge the floor:
- Floor: Lower | Higher.
- Figs look: Smaller | Bigger.
- Looking: Flatter | More from above.
- Straighten: ↶ | ↷.
Each tap moves the camera and redraws the grid. Nudge until the grid’s squares lie flat on the ground in the photo. Redo the floor (full screen) starts the floor over. Until the floor is set, the button reads Set the floor (full screen).
Each cutout has a row, named by its number on the picture: Cutout 1 with Nearer, Farther, and Remove. Cut another (full screen) opens the tracing tool. With no cutouts yet, the button reads Cut out the front (full screen).
Set the floor
Tap Set the floor (full screen) and drag the mat’s four corners onto something flat in the photo (a rug). The small box on the mat shows how big a fig will be. Tap Fine-tune for buttons instead: Floor up, Floor down, Nearer, Farther, and two Tilt buttons. Corners returns to the mat. Start over resets it. When the mat lies flat on the photo, tap ✓ Flat rendering applied. Figs then stand on the photo.
Cut out the front
Tap Cut out the front (full screen) and draw over what should be in front of the figs (the mug at the photo’s edge). The brushes are Small, Medium, and Big, with an Eraser and Clear. Magic tap selects the whole color region under the tap. Picky, Normal, or Grabby sets how much one tap takes. Flip swaps what is masked and what is not. Never mind closes the tool without cutting.
Tap Cut out the subject and each masked blob becomes a cutout. Figs can walk behind a cutout. A cutout moves Nearer or Farther on its row under Floor and cutouts, or on its card on the Picked page .
Photo look and the sun
Photo look sets how the photo is drawn. Match style draws it in the same style as the figs. Pixel and Flipnote are retro looks. Original leaves it unchanged. Cutouts get the same look.
The sun is in Atmosphere under Light. Drag the Sun disc to set its direction and height, with the Bright and Warm sliders beside it. Match photo samples the photo for a starting point. Setting › Photo has a Sun row too.
Land on a photo
The World tab’s Land and Scenery doors work on a photo stage too. Base floor is greyed; the photo is the floor.
Take the picture
Place the figs, open the Camera tab, and tap Snap. The shot has the photo at the back, the figs in the middle, and the cutouts in front. See The Camera .
