Cliffs and stairs

Raise cliffs, cut land steps, and paint the ground one square at a time.

Use the Land door of the World tab to place land one square at a time. The tools are two buttons in the page’s header, beside the red Erase: Raise and Land steps. Raise makes cliffs and terraces. Land steps cuts steps up them. The grounds are a row of picture tiles under the door’s dials, under the caption Ground: choose one, then drag on the map to paint it: Grass, Water, Sand, Snow, Marsh, and Yours ▸. They paint the ground. Erase removes a square.

The Land page's ground tiles with Raise armed in the header: its profile and corner rows show under the tiles. The header buttons are not drawn here.

Tap a header button or a ground tile to arm it (it lights). Arming one turns landform placing off. Tap it again to turn it off.

Raise

Tap Raise in the header and drag on the map. The drag raises the squares it crosses one level. Paint the same spot again to raise it another level, up to eight.

While Raise is armed, two switch rows show on the page, under the ground tiles. They shape every square you paint:

  • The profile: Smooth (a soft skirt), Blocky (a sheer wall), Rolling (a rounded rim), or Facet (a flat low-poly slope).
  • The corners: Square, Cut, or Round.

Squares can have different profiles, and the land joins them.

Land steps

Tap Land steps in the header and tap a square beside higher land. The tap cuts steps into that square, so figs can walk up it. The steps face the higher land and rise its full height. Chain them level to level. Land steps update whenever the land beside them changes.

Land steps are cut into the land. A building’s stairs are a tile in the Build catalog, under Stairs & ramps.

The five grounds

Tap Grass, Water, Sand, Snow, or Marsh, then drag on the map. Each square you cross takes it.

Yours

Yours ▸ opens the ground and pattern picker. Select any ground or any of your patterns , then drag on the map. Each square you cross takes it.

Water on high ground

Paint Water onto raised land and it stays at that height (a pond on a plateau). The cliff faces below it show a waterfall. The Stream brush on Scenery › Roads draws a creek with a current. See Scenery .

Sand, snow, and marsh

Tap the Sand, Snow, or Marsh tile, then tap or drag on the map. Or tap a painted square: its Picked page in the World deck names it, like Grass square, and its Surface dropdown repaints that one square: Grass, Water, Path, Sand, Snow, Marsh, Sidewalk, Street, or Clear ground. A stroke of sand also comes from Sand on Scenery › Roads. A square that cannot take the selected ground says Invalid placement location.

Erase

Erase is one red button at the right end of the page’s header, in the same spot on Land, Build, and Scenery. It is the same red as Remove. The page’s tool buttons are in the same row, the same size as Erase. They stay in one row with the title. When the window is narrow, each button becomes a small square with its icon over its word. On Land, tap it and drag on the map to remove painted ground and raised land, square by square. Tap it again to turn it off. On Build it erases walls and floors. On Scenery it erases roads and the plants under your finger.

What stands on the land

Raise or erase a square under a fig and the fig moves to the new height. Anything dug in carves its spot again.
