Scenes

Shiny surfaces

Turn the floor into water, or make a placed piece a mirror, water, or a screen.

Reflections appear in two places: the scene’s floor, and the flat tops of a placed piece.

The Water floor

Open the Setting door on the World tab and switch its first row to Base floor. The Shine row reads Matte or Water. Matte is ordinary ground. Water turns the whole floor into a reflecting pool: everything standing on it shows upside down.

Painted water comes from the Water tile in the Land page’s row of ground tiles, one square at a time, or from the Stream brush on Scenery › Roads. Once the scene has some, three rows appear under Shine:

  • Water sets what the painted water is. Water moves. Ice is still, a thin glassy film. Lava is a glowing surface that heaves slowly and warms the ground beside it, bare floor included; a cliff pouring into it falls orange. Dead is still and dark, barely a film.
  • Waves sets how tall the swell is. Speed sets how fast it rolls. Both read as a percent.

Figs with the Bob move rise and fall with the water. Every mood but Sunny day tints lakes, creeks, and a Water floor. See Atmosphere .

Mirror is still. Water ripples. Screen glows.
The Surface row on a placed copy's page.

Tap a placed copy on the Figs tab to open its page. Its Surface row selects:

  • Matte: the ordinary state.
  • Mirror: a still reflection (a dressing mirror, a frozen pond).
  • Water: ripples, and the reflection wobbles with it.
  • Screen: turns the piece’s biggest flat face into a small live screen. See Screen faces .

The reflection appears on the piece’s flat tops. For a pond, dig a dip into a flat piece with Push in , place it, and set its Surface to Water.

The row is not offered on a copy hung on a wall, or on a cutout from a photo.

Two at a time

A scene allows two shiny pieces at a time. Ask for a third and the hint says to set another one to Matte first.

Reflections show live on the stage and in every shot The Camera takes.
