Words

Put words on a flat sheet, and set the turn each bubble takes in Showtime.

Use the Words row on a placed flat sheet’s page to put text on it (a speech bubble, a sign). Tap the sheet on the Figs tab to open its page.

The Words row, opened: Size, then Say it, Take the words off, and Stand up on a sheet that lies flat.

Say it

Tap Add words, type up to 80 characters, select an ink from the palette, and tap Say it. The words are drawn over the sheet’s face in the scene and in every shot. The pill then shows the words; tap it again to change them. Take the words off clears them.

Size

Size sets how wide the words are on the sheet: Small, Medium, or Big. Small fills 45 percent of the sheet’s width, Medium 70 percent, and Big 98 percent (a title). With words already on, a tap on a size changes them at once.

Stand up

A sheet that lies flat on the ground shows a Stand up button beside Say it. Tap it and this copy stands on its edge, facing the way it is turned, so the words read from the side (a sign). The button then reads Lay it flat. A sheet set to On the lens does not get it.

Words belong to the copy, not the fig. Each copy of one bubble can say something different, and the fig in your library never changes.

Types in

With words on, a Types in row appears: Stays, 1st, 2nd, and so on, one turn per bubble in the scene, up to 6th. In Showtime the numbered bubbles type themselves out in order (a conversation). Stays bubbles are always shown. Bubbles with the same number type out together.

Make a speech bubble

  1. In the fig editor, start with the Sheet piece in Add and paint it into a bubble.
  2. Place it beside a fig and angle it with the map ‘s Turn slider.
  3. Add words. If the sheet lies flat, tap Stand up.
  4. Select its turn and tap Showtime.

Only flat sheets hold words. Solid figs do not get the row.
