The World tab

Set the base floor, place land, draw buildings, and scatter scenery on the map.

Use the World tab to set the base floor, the land, the buildings, and the scenery. Its four doors, Setting, Land, Build, and Scenery, are in a list on the left, each with its own picture (Land shows an island). Tap a door to open its controls beside the list. Every tap and drag acts on the map . Tap something on the map and the door’s form is replaced by its Picked page, with its card.

The four doors

  • Setting: the base of the scene. Its one row selects Base floor or Photo. Starter scenes and worlds open from the top bar’s Scene menu › Starter scenes…. See Starter worlds .
    • Base floor sets the look of the stage floor. Its Surface well opens the ground and pattern picker. Pattern size sets the size of the floor’s pattern. In a Room, it adds Floor, Walls, and Ceiling rows, each On | Off. On the Theater world it adds Shape (Circle or Square), Size (Cozy, Classic, Grand, or Vast), and a Roughness dial that lifts the flat floor into bumps. Shine is Matte or Water. Once the scene has painted water, a Water row sets what that water is (Water, Ice, Lava, or Dead), and two dials, Waves and Speed, set the swell. See Shiny surfaces .
    • Photo starts a scene inside a photograph. With a photo scene open, it holds the photo’s settings: Your photo (a thumbnail and New photo), Photo look, Sun, and Floor and cutouts. Floor and cutouts shows the photo with the floor drawn on it as a grid and every cutout highlighted and numbered. The floor’s nudges and a row per cutout are under it. Redo the floor (full screen) and Cut another (full screen) open the two full-screen tools. See Make a photo scene .
  • Land: place whole landforms and reshape them. The eleven kinds are picture tiles. Two tool buttons are in the page’s header beside Erase: Raise lifts squares, and Land steps cuts steps into a slope. Under the dials, one row of picture tiles holds the grounds: Grass, Water, Sand, Snow, and Marsh paint the ground, and Yours ▸ paints it with any ground or pattern. See Land .
  • Build: a catalog of pieces with nothing selected. Its first row, Draw with, holds the Outside, Inside, Floor, and Roof wells for every wall, floor tile, and roof you make next. Arm Room, Wall, Half wall, or Fence and a Wall style row of picture tiles appears under the tiles. Arm Roof and a Roof kind row shows the twelve roof kinds the same way. A look in the Sets row fills the wells and the wall style in one tap, and sets the kind of the next roof. Two tool buttons are in the page’s header beside Erase: Paint brush repaints a wall or a floor tile, and Mural hangs a picture on a wall. Draw walls, rooms, and openings on the map. Select a building, its walls, or its floor tiles and Build becomes the selection’s page, where you paint the building and shape the roof (twelve roof kinds, from Peaked to Steeple). See Build a building .
  • Scenery: Foliage scatters plants and rocks, eleven kinds, each a picture tile with a check square. Roads drags paths and streams; its six road kinds are picture tiles too. See Scenery .

The Picked page

Tap something on the map and the door’s form is replaced by its Picked page, under a Back chip. Back, or None on the Select bar, brings the door’s form back. The page holds:

  • A placed piece: its card, with Copy and Remove. A fig’s card adds Wearing, Skin, Pose, Moves, and Doing rows.
  • A building: on Build, the Build page becomes the page of the selected building, walls, or floor tiles. On another door, a tapped building keeps a short card with Edit building ›, which opens Build with the building selected. See Build a building .
  • A landform you placed: its name, and its Top and Sides wells.
  • A painted square: its name, like Grass square, and a Surface dropdown that repaints that one square: Grass, Water, Path, Sand, Snow, Marsh, Sidewalk, Street, or Clear ground. Several selected squares show one Surface for all, Raise one step, Lower a step, and Clear.

Erase is one red button at the right end of the page’s header, in the same spot on Land, Build, and Scenery. It is the same red as Remove. A page’s tool buttons (Raise and Land steps on Land, Paint brush and Mural on Build) are beside it in one row, the same size. Each is an icon and a word. They stay in one row with the title. When the window is narrow, each button becomes a small square with its icon over its word. Armed, a drag on the map erases what that page makes: painted ground and raised land on Land, walls and floors on Build, roads and plants on Scenery. Tap it again to put it down. See Cliffs and stairs .

The Select bar follows the door

The top group of the Select bar follows the open door:

  • Build: What (Building · Walls · Floors) and, for Walls or Floors, How much. See Build a building .
  • Land: Square · Patch · All alike. All selects all the land.
  • Scenery: One · Patch · All alike.
  • Everywhere else: One · Group.

Tap · Add · Box, All · None, and Undo stay the same on every door.

One tool at a time

The map’s hint line names the armed tool and says what a tap or a drag will do. Arming Erase puts the door’s tool down. Tapping a door’s control puts Erase down. Switching doors puts everything down.

On an open stage like Space or a photo, Base floor is greyed. Land and Scenery still work.
