Playback & physics
Frame rate and ease for every move on the fig, then Springy, Swish, and Paper on top.
Playback & physics is the only page under Playback, the last caption of the Animate list. Its line reads How every move on this fig plays. The page has four captions: Playback, Physics, Swish, and Paper. Playback sets how every move on the fig plays. The other three add motion on top of every preset move, every keyframe, and every scene movement. None of them needs keyframes, and all of them can be on at once.
Playback
The caption reads Playback · every move on this fig. Both settings save with the fig.
- Use Frame rate to set how many times a second the fig’s parts step to a new position. The dropdown lists Smooth · 24 a second, Choppy · 12 a second, Stop motion · 6 a second, and Flip-book · 3 a second. The row shows the first word. A new fig shows Stop motion.
- Use Gets to a pose to set how a part gets from one keyframe to the next: Ease in and out (the row reads In and out), Ease in, Ease out, or Straight. A new fig is on Ease in and out.
A pose step in a move set has its own Gets there.
Springy
Springy is one setting for the whole fig, under the Physics caption. The switch is Off, Soft, or Bouncy. A new fig starts on Soft.
- Off has no dials. Its line reads Off: parts stop exactly where their move puts them.
- Soft adds a small overshoot and a short settle to every move.
- Bouncy overshoots more and takes longer to settle.
Two sliders are under the switch on Soft and Bouncy.
- How much sets how far a part swings past its pose, from 0% to 100%.
- Settles in sets how long the wobble lasts, from 0.25 s to 1.6 s.
The sliders open on the numbers of the switch position: 39% and 0.55 s on Soft, 81% and 1.00 s on Bouncy. Change the switch and the sliders go to the new position’s numbers.
Parts attached to a moving part follow behind it. With Springy on, a part on the head (hair, a hat, an ear) swings during Walk and Run. The switch and both sliders save with the fig.
Swish
Swish is for faces, not parts: faces that trail behind, such as hair or a hem. Hair that is its own part needs no Swish; give it Sway under Idle loops . With no swish the section reads None yet. Pick the faces, then the point they grow from, then the tip.
- Tap Pick swish faces, then tap the faces on the fig. A bar under the form counts them: 3 faces picked.
- Tap ✓ Done picking. The bar reads Tap the root point. Tap the root, the point that stays still.
- The bar reads Tap the tip. Tap the end that swings.
Those faces swing everywhere the fig goes, in Showtime, in scenes, and in every capture. ✕ Never mind stops a pick at any step.
With a swish on, the section shows its rows.
- Faces is a dropdown of the fig’s swishes, each by its count and its part (3 faces on Head). Use it to choose the swish the rows below act on.
- Amount is a slider with three stops: Small, Medium, Big.
- Add another swish starts a new pick.
- Remove this swish deletes the swish shown in Faces.
Paper
Paper is for a flat part: a painted sheet, a cutout, a photo. The whole part deforms as a sheet. A fig with no flat part reads Paper needs a flat part: a sheet, a cutout, or a photo. This fig has none.
- Use Part to choose the flat part. The dropdown lists the fig’s flat parts and reads Choose a flat part until you choose. A tap on a flat part on the fig chooses it too.
- Use Motion to choose what the sheet does. The sheet starts at
once.
- Ripple: a wave runs across the sheet. Flags, leaves.
- Breathe: the sheet swells and relaxes from the middle.
- Curl: the free edge lifts and settles.
- None removes the paper motion.
- Use Pinned edge to choose the edge that stays still: Left, Right, Top, or Bottom. A new motion starts pinned at the bottom.
- Amount is a switch: Small, Medium, or Big.
- Apply to N matching parts shows when other parts share the part’s size. Tap it and each takes the same paper motion, pinned the same way.
Paper motion plays in scenes and in Showtime.
In a scene
A placed fig keeps its Frame rate, its Gets to a pose, and its Springy settings. The scene’s Timing page has its own Frame rate, with the same four choices: Smooth · 24 a second, Choppy · 12 a second, Stop motion · 6 a second, and Flip-book · 3 a second. The rule for a fig’s parts:
- In a scene on Smooth, each fig plays on its own Frame rate.
- In a scene on Choppy, Stop motion or Flip-book, every fig plays on the scene’s frame rate, so they all step together.
- A fig whose Frame rate was never chosen counts as Stop motion.
A new scene starts on Stop motion. Set the scene’s Frame rate to Smooth to see each fig’s own.
Gets to a pose is the fig’s own in every scene.
Timing also holds one Physics switch for the whole scene, Each fig’s own | Off: Each fig uses its own Springy setting. or Off: no overshoot or settle on any fig. It saves with the scene. See Scene animation .
Exports follow the fig’s Frame rate and ease too: every .glb clip, the sprite sheets, and the moves the Roblox plugin plays.
Animated skins
Animated skins are paint, not motion. They are in Color under Skins; see Animated skins .
