Pose by hand

Choose the whole fig or one part, then shape it with a drag or the sliders.

Use Pose by hand to put the fig, or one part of it, into a pose and hold it there. It is the first row under the Poses caption in the Animate list. Its head line reads Choose a body part or the whole fig, then shape it. Save as… is in the page’s header.

The page is one column. The Pose dropdown says what you are posing. Its sliders come next, then Ready-made, then Saved poses. The last two are on Poses .

Pose by hand on a left arm: the Pose dropdown, the part's sliders, Around, Ready-made, the link to Rig, then Saved poses.

Pose: what you are posing

Use the Pose dropdown to choose what the sliders move. The first choice is The whole fig, noted turn, lean, squash. Under Its parts, every part is listed by the role it has in Rig (Body, Head, Left arm), with its shape name beside it. A part with no role is listed by its shape name and noted no role.

A tap on a part of the fig chooses it in the dropdown too. The hint reads Left arm: drag it on the fig, or use the sliders. Pose a part two ways: drag it on the fig, or move its sliders.

The sliders for a part

Drag a slider and the part moves live. Each drag is one undo step. A part left at rest holds nothing.

  • Swing: hinge over at the pivot , up to 120° either way.
  • Turn: spin around the line through the pivot, up to a half turn either way.
  • Bend: curl through the bend area , up to 120° either way. Without a bend area the hint reads Set the bend area first: two taps mark it.
  • Lift: up or down, in blocks, up to 16 either way.
  • Slide: out from the pivot or back toward it, in blocks, up to 16 either way.
  • Size: from 50% to 200%.
  • Around: which way Turn’s line points. Up (the default), Side, or Front. One direction per part.

The sliders for the whole fig

With The whole fig chosen, the sliders move the Body, and every part attached to it follows.

  • Turn: up to a half turn either way.
  • Lean: up to 120° either way. Plus leans the way the fig faces.
  • Squash: from -40% to 40%.

With no Body named, the page reads Rotation, leaning, and squash operations require a designated Body part. Assign one in Rig ›. Tap it to open Rig. A fig of one part needs no name: that part is its body.

A part that has a move

A part does one thing at a time. A part with an idle loop, a preset move or keyframes cannot hold a pose. Where its sliders would be, the page reads Left arm cannot hold a pose. and says what it has. Two buttons follow. Its move is in Preset moves › (or Its keyframes are in Move sets ›) opens that page. The coral button removes the move, and its label says what is removed: Take Sway off this part, Take Wave off the fig, or Remove its keyframes. Nothing is removed from a part until you press it.

Fix the pivot

Under Ready-made, Bends in the wrong place? Fix its pivot in Rig › opens that part’s line on Rig . The pivot, the bend area and where the part attaches are set there. See Pivot , Bend and Attach .

Save as…

Tap Save as… in the header to keep the pose on the fig under a name. See Poses for saved poses, Showing, Compare with and the onion skin.

Keyframes and triggers

Keyframes for one part are on Move sets , under Keyframes on a part at the foot of that page. The part’s Starts dropdown (Always, On touch, Once, Open) is there too. A run of saved poses for the whole fig is a move set whose steps are saved poses.
