Rip a texture from a photo

The best textures aren’t in the app. They’re on your kitchen table, your brick wall, your favorite shirt. This walkthrough rips one out of a photo and turns it into a pattern you can dress any flatling in.

1. Bring in the photo

Open the Pattern studio from the home screen’s Patterns tab and tap Photo. Take a picture right there, or pick one from your camera roll. The Make it yours step opens with two tabs: Frame it and Warp it.

2. Frame it

Start on Frame it. Drag the photo until the good part sits in the frame, and pinch to zoom. That’s the whole tab. Get the wood grain, the brick, the weave roughly centered. Close is good enough; the next tab does the precise part.

3. Warp it

Tap Warp it. It opens already zoomed to what you framed, with four dots waiting. Drag each dot onto a corner of the patch you want. Hold a dot and a magnifying loupe pops up over your finger, showing the frame lines through the glass, so you can land it right on the mortar line. Pinch to get in close for the fussy corners.

Photo looks bendy? Phone lenses do that. Slide Lens until the straight lines in the photo look straight again.

4. Keep it

Press Keep it and Ünflat lifts exactly that patch out of the photo and squares it up, as if you’d photographed it dead-on. It lands in Your patterns , ready for faces, floors, walls, and pattern sheets.

5. Come back later with Edit warp

Here’s the magic part: the pattern keeps its recipe. Open it in the Pattern studio any day, tap the Photo popout, and press Edit warp. The workspace reopens with your photo and the dots right where you left them, forever. Nudge one dot, keep it again, done. No re-shooting, no starting over.

Rip a few from one photo. A brick wall gives you bricks, but the door beside it gives you wood, and the sidewalk under it gives you stone. One trip outside, a whole shelf of patterns.
