Applause, stars, hearts, and fans

Every shared piece has an Applaud button and a Favorite button (the heart). Clips also have a Star. Every maker’s page has fan buttons.

Applause

Applaud adds public applause for the maker. The count shows on the card and on the maker’s page, and the maker gets mail about it. Tap again to remove it. Applauding needs an artist name . Applause gives the maker star points: one point for every ten.

Stars

A Star is for clips only. It is worth ten applause, one per person per clip, and it is permanent. Stars come in two kinds:

• Earned stars. Every ten applause on your own shared work adds one star for you to give. Earned stars are not taken away.
• Member stars. Plus members get five stars a week to give, on top of their earned ones. The week is the last seven days.

With both kinds, the app asks which one to give. With none left, the star button says so and tells you how to earn more.

Hearts

Favorite saves a piece to Your favorites, a row on the community shelf. Favorites are private: nobody sees what you saved, there is no count, and you need no account. There is no limit. Tap again to remove one.

Fans and superfans

Tap a maker’s @name to open their page . Two buttons are under their name:

• Become a fan. Their new clips appear on Following, a shelf on the Clips tab, and arrive in your inbox .
• Superfan. The same, plus a notification when they post, if you allow it. The app asks when you tap it. See Notifications .

Being a fan is private. No maker sees who their fans are, and no fan count appears anywhere. Tap either button again to undo it.

Star points

Star points are the one number on your page. They add up from:

Points are a score. They unlock nothing. Your number shows as a chip on the Inbox title on Today, and animates when it has grown since you last looked. It shows on your page and on the Settings window’s Account tab too. The Star board at the bottom of every Community side lists the makers with the most star points. Tap a name for their page.
